Balancing the Budget: Outsourcing Business Services

My company is now over a decade old and I still outsource several key functions. It isn't that I can't afford to keep them in house. It is just that outsourcing is the most financially responsible decision I can make. I outsource all sorts of support services. One company manages my IT needs. Another partner takes care of the payroll and remitting taxes. I even have a cleaning service that comes in at night, does the windows, and in general keeps everything spotless. If you think outsourcing might benefit your business, let's talk. I'll tell you what I outsource and why. From there, you can decide if my strategy would also work for you.

Mistakes To Avoid When Cleaning The Air Filter Of Your Business AC System

Properly maintaining the air conditioning system of your place of business is just a good way to protect your investment, and one of the most important factors in this feat is keeping the air filter clean. If you are like most business owners, the air system you have has a reusable filter that only needs to be cleaned and not replaced every time it gets dirty. While cleaning an air filter may seem like a simple task, there is actually a lot of room for error. Take a look at these common mistakes when cleaning the air filter of a commercial AC unit and why they should be avoided.

Mistake: Scrubbing the filter too vigorously.

Why? Scrubbing the air filter of your AC unit too vigorously can damage it and slough away some of the fibers that will filter out contaminants. If you cannot easily brush away the dirt and debris on the filter, try using a soft-bristled brush or broom to brush away what dust and dirt you see. If the debris will still not work loose, use a cleaning solution to loosen up the debris, and then try brushing the filter again. You may have to repeat this process a few times to get the filter completely cleaned.

Mistake: Using harsh chemicals to clean the filter.

Why? You should never use harsh chemicals like bleach to clean the air filter, even though this may seem like a good way to soak away all of that dirt and debris. The chemicals can actually saturate the filter material and break it down, which means you will have to replace your filter. It is a better idea to invest in an air filter cleaning kit, like those made by companies like Air Filter Cleaner, that usually contains safe cleaning components to clean the filter that can be sprayed on and wiped away with a soft brush or cloth.

Mistake: Using hot water to clean the filter.

Why? It is a common misconception that the hotter the water, the easier it will be to break down dirt and grime so it can be removed from the air filter. However, using extremely hot water to clean your air filter can actually damage the components. If you must use water, make sure it is only lukewarm at the most, and don't overly saturate the filter at all because this can also cause damage. It is better to spray a fine mist of moisture on the filter and allow it to soak.
